Gidlow is a suburban church, approximately one mile north of Wigan town centre, which is surrounded by housing built in the 1890s and the 1950s, with pockets of recent development. The local population is reasonably stable seeing little movement in and out of the area. The area is well provided with churches as there are fourteen within a one mile radius of Gidlow. The building was modified in 1990 and now consists of an entrance foyer, the main worship area, a small hall and a meeting room. The main worship area and small hall can be joined to produce a larger worship area when the need arises. Gidlow is a small friendly church with a mainly traditional style of worship Gidlow Methodist but the congregation are open to different approaches. There is co-operation with Whitley Methodist in Worship Together which takes place in the evening on the second Sunday of the month at Whitley. The members at Gidlow are currently active in seeking ways forward to develop the life of the church. The church has a successful Ladies’ Fellowship which meets weekly on Wednesday afternoons. For the majority of meetings visiting speakers are invited to provide the focus of the meeting. On Wednesday mornings a coffee morning is held which in addition to providing members and adherents with an opportunity to drink, eat and chat to each other is a form of outreach to the local community. Weekday youth activities are run in co-operation with Whitley Methodist Church. These consist of a Crusaders group on Friday evenings and a one week Holiday Bible Club in summer. The Good News Bible Hymns and Psalms Mission Praise Which are all available in the church for your use. We sometimes use other materials such as CD's, Projectors with pictures and words. We also have a hall available for hire, please contact Eric Rigby for further information! Circuit Vision
